Also, calling this treason is insane. Do we not remember when Nancy Pelosi led a delegation to Syria - an active enemy of the US - in opposition to Bush's wishes? When people suggested that she violated the Logan Act, they were laughed out of the room.
Really not the same thing. There was (1) no foreign policy conflict: Syria did not actively oppose either of the US-led wars against Iraq; and (2) no political conflict: a Congressional delegation going on a foreign "fact finding" mission is a forgettable footnote and the Syrian government had no political capital to gain from it.
Bibi and Israel have foreign policy interests that clearly conflict with those of the United States. They view Iran as the principal threat in the Middle East, when really Iran can serve as a counterweight to ISIS and the Sunni Gulf states. For Bibi to be given an audience as prestigious as the US Congress gives him a bully pulpit to advocate for an Iran-centric policy that undermines American efforts to contain ISIS.
He also has this very stupid notion of Islamism that lumps Iran/Hezbollah/Shi'ite groups, ISIS/Saudi Arabia/Sunni groups, and Hamas/Palestinian nationalist groups into a homogenous group that do nothing but conspire to "drive the Jews into the sea." It's about as logical as believing, during the post-1960 Cold War, that the USSR, the PRC, Titoist Yugoslavia and Albania were all in cahoots together against the West.
The timing so close to his election campaign is also blatantly self-serving and does nothing more than enable him to flash a bunch of photos of himself giving the speech and tell voters that a Labor government won't be able to get the goyim to keep writing them checks.
