The Keystone XL bill was amended on the floor to say "it is the sense of the Senate that climate change is real and not a hoax."

Sheldon Whitehouse and James Inhofe (!) co-sponsored the amendment and it passed 98-1, Roger Wicker being the only one to vote against.

It was the third of three amendments proposed, holding up passage of the bill. The first by Brian Schatz said humans contributed significantly to climate change (failed 49-50). The second by Barbara Boxer and John Hoeven (!) said humans contributed to climate change (failed cloture 59-40).

So there you go.

Should be noted that Hoeven voted against his own amendment.

Well the GOP has moved on from the "it isn't happening" position to either "it's happening, but it isn't clear if/how much man is contributing to it" or even the more fatalistic "we are contributing to climate change, but the cost of doing anything about it isn't worth it" or "why do anything until China and India go all solar"

I'd say it was a procedural trick so he could bring it up again, but considering it would have passed had he voted for it, I don't really know what to make of this.

The classic conservative talking point is that climate change is real but that it's not man-made.

The classic conservative talking point is that climate change is real but that it's not man-made.

5 Republican Senators said humans significantly contributed
Another 9 Republican Senators said humans contributed
40 said no human contribution

I'm not exactly saying I agree with the GOP Senate, but new information should change people's minds, and perhaps that's what's happening.
