Notably stronger result for the SNP than the one in Midlothian towards the end of last year.

All the candidates in Oswestry were quite well known (town councillors), apart from the Labour one. The Labour candidate in 2013 (who did quite well) is now the North Shropshire PPC so didn't run.

Cadnant is a Caernarfon town ward and had previously never been won by Labour at principle local authority level.

Turnout was actually quite high for a local election (in the 40s) because this is a self-contained and affluent village.

There's also a super controversial planning proposal relating to the village (couple of hundred new homes or something: I forget the details. I remember reading about it last year) which may have been a factor. Also Llay - like the rest of Wrexham borough - has weird local voting patterns and always has.

Anyway, I've always known it as Lay (specifically in the context that Llay Welfare football team of the postwar years were notorious cheats, but that's enough about that) if that helps.

In some parts of South Wales its basically impossible to create 'accurate' percentages for local elections. I wouldn't worry overmuch about it.

Its a small ward in a small town noted for its sleepy local politics and turnout was beyond abysmal. I doubt there's much that can be read into it.
