So today we did it in a different and unique way. There was a marker and nametag on every seat, and we wrote our names on it for this reason. Inste ad of having everyone get it from a few people handing it out, communion was at various tables around the church with about 4 or 5 seats. So we lined up, went to these tables, and each person took the bread and wine themselves and then held them out to the next person, and said "*name* (hence the nametags) the Body of Christ, broken for you" when they grabbed the piece of bread and then "the Blood of Christ, shed for you" when they dipped it in the wine. So similar to what's typically said, but it was a communal thing instead of just a couple people.

Thought it was really unique and a great way to do so.

A slight improvement, but only if it served to actually build relationships beyond the nametag stage.

I don't really have an opinion of this. I'd probably never attend a church that would do that, but it's not nearly as offensive as your other practices.

I think it's kind of nice and makes it more personal.  Other than that, I have no comment.

In my church, we always had the pastor and the elders pass the bread and cups down each row.

Had the bread and wine been consecrated beforehand?

LOL

As for the OP, meh. I have much stronger opinions about using wine at the Lord's Supper than how exactly it's distributed.

Also kudos to BRTD's church for actually celebrating communion since a decent number of ultra-low church congregations don't.

Why would Memorialists do that?

I must say, I was horrified when the student mass on Ash Wednesday required us to pass the ashes down the row and put those on each other's foreheads. I had to put them on my roommate and just ugh never again. Needless to say, I went with the general public the next year.

Communion this way would not work for me.

I definitely appreciate more informal approaches to communion (sorry Madeline, I'm not a full Episcopalian yet Wink), and that approach seems pretty harmless to me.  I enjoyed handing out communion when I was in middle school/high school/undergrad.

I like the idea. As part of a church that does observe communion (monthly) I think a more personal style is appropriate.
