Someone who had been completely opposed to any U.S. participation in WWII and had a burning hatred for anyone who had anything to do with it.

Someone from New York or Illinois who voted based on home state affinity.

An elitist "intellectual", probably from the Northeast, who voted for the New Yawk lawyer over that farm boy from Missouri (who doesn't even have a college degree!), but fawned over the "intellectual" Stevenson while not being suitably impressed by a Midwestern army man.

For this reason, probably not as rare as people think. I bet a lot of New England Old Money Types, especially in and around the Boston Area, voted this way.

people are forgetting the most obvious choice - someone living in Philadelphia. City narrowly went for Truman in 1948 and went 58-42 Stevenson in 1952 (ballot rigging?)
