Well, here is the map

Red: Carter Obama, 151 EV
Blue: Ford Romney, 65 EV
Green: Ford Obama, 181 EV
Gray: Carter Romney, 141 EV

How do you describe each group of states?

Blue = Culturally Western (exception: IN)
Gray = Culturally Southern
Red = Large cities filled with northern Democrats (FL only recently)
Green = States whose makeup, culture and politics have changed drastically since 1976 (exception: MI, with Ford being the obvious reason)

In this map, Florida is red. If Florida were two separate states, the Panhandle would be gray and the Penis would be green.
