The abortion restrictions are core to the original law and as such must stay put. It's best to separate the immigration bill from the Right to Life Act. I support Shua's amendment to maintain the current abortion restrictions though my opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants prevent me from fully supporting this bill.

I would support a standalone measure securing greater civil rights for migrants, or doing such as an amendment to the Right to Life Act. I cannot in any way advance a bill that only promotes the rights of migrants at the expense of the unborn.

As a compromise I can propose an amendment to the Migrant Civil Rights Act so that instead of repealing the Right to Life Act, it amends the Right to Life Act to read:

No, I still couldn't vote for such a bill, as it would be a substantive removal of protections for  unborn children.

I must agree with Shua on this one. The protections for the unborn need to be maintained at the current level and further strengthened in the future. The best thing is to separate the legislation into the duel categories this bill is trying to address.

FYI Hatman, my amendment is already better than the status quo; no waiting period (which doesn't "save" any unborn, it just makes it harder for the woman) or ultrasound (waste of medical funds if it isn't medically warranted). If Crabcake doesn't show up, please accept this as a compromise.

I don't want to control any woman's body. This is an issue of the fundamental right to life for the baby in the womb. You are looking at this from the wrong perspective.
