No (pescetarian) but I have no objection to it either. If this is your bridge too far in terms of food only available in Japan, you're going to plotz at some of the stuff they serve in sushi-ya and ebisu-ya.

And the amazing thing, is that like all fast food in ads it manages to look even worse in real life:

To be fair, still better than what Oliver Garden apparentely serves.

Gross and disgusting. No chance. Which goes way beyond not eating meat.

Plus, I mean, that's cheese?

Hey, you know, whatever. It only actually bothers me that they kill bottlenose dolphins.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with squid ink. Frankly I don't have a lot of respect for people who refuse to at least try new foods, especially one as inoffensive as a sandwich.

Oh, hell yeah.  I'd give it try.  I've only been to Japan once, and the last thing I seek out when I'm in exotic locales is Burger King, but if I happened to stumble in to a Jap BK, then I'd probably look for exotic stuff that I don't see on US BK menus.  I know that every time we're in China or South America and I end up eating in a KFC or McDonalds, I always order something unavailable here, just to try it.  That sandwich actually looks interesting.  Then again, I've also eaten cuy, both from "nice" 25-dollar-a-plate restaurants and from one-dollar street vendors.  Cuy tastes like cuy, by the way, whether you pay 25 dollar for it or one dollar for it.  Only thing I ever saw that I wouldn't want to try was blended live frog.  Saw that in Ecuador once.  Big tub of fat, live frogs, blended and served raw.  Apparently it's a date drink.  Good for the libido or something like that.  That one was just a bridge too far for me.  But the squid ink burger on bamboo charcoal sounds delicious.  Honestly, the only burger I ever met that I didn't like was the "boca" burger (textured vegetable protein masquerading as "burger meat")  That's truly nasty.  All the other burgers I've tried in all the other places I've tried them have been decent.  Some more exotic than others, but usually good.

I'm pretty sure that Boca Burgers are actually a long con set up by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association to make vegetarianism look as unappetizing as possible.  It's the only explanation for how bad they are.

If you're going to get a black burger, make it the "Black Label Burger" at Minetta Tavern in Manhattan.  It's kind of expensive, $28, but it's one of the best burgers I've ever had.

haha.  could be.  "Tofurky" might be a similar con from the turkey farmers.  Tofu (or Dou Fu as it is more commonly known to the millions who eat it regularly) can actually taste good.  The reason beanfood is so delicious is that it is very absorbent, and absorbs whatever flavor is used with it.  Pork seems to be the most commonly used flavoring in China; Fish in Japan, at least in the restaurants I've visited in those countries.  In our house, we have some form of bean curd at least twice a week.  Last night, for example, we took thin-sliced baked Dou Fu and sauteed it in a mixture of vegetable oil and sesame oil with garlic, green onion, mushrooms, and small bokchoy.  We seasoned it with soy sauce and a bit of pork sausage.  This is a fairly traditional dish which millions of other people probably also ate last night.  Often we make Mau Po Dou Fu, which is spicy and involves the medium-firm white variety of Dou Fu, with lots of carrots, onion, pork, and other items.  Szechuan Garden in Boston makes a mean Dou Fu with fish and pequin chiles.  They also have the dry Dou Fu (dou gān) noodles with meatballs and vegetables in a salty, spicy broth.  These are all well-known and delicious dishes.

Why would anyone take plain white bean curd and shape it like a turkey and flavor it like cardboard?  Perhaps to give bean curd a bad name.

Then again, as long as we're theorizing, the squidburger may also be a con to make BK look bad.  The poll results in this thread certainly make it seem so.  I'm still up for the squidburger, though.

I'd eat it for the novelty. It's just coloring so it's not like it actually tastes different than a regular burger.
