I'm not a nationalist, because everyone knows I hate American patriotism and jingoism.

But yeah I am kind of a statist, I have no problem wearing Minnesota shirts though I never would for an American one. And I really like Minneapolis, so I'm a cityist, though not a countist, because most of Hennepin County that isn't Minneapolis is terrible. I'm a bit of a neighborhoodist but not extreme because plenty of other great ones exist in Minneapolis too.

With the exception of the first, these words don't actually exist.

Eh, I think nationalist is the only that might fit. I have no real attachment to Washington or Spokane.

Was anybody worried this would say 'racist'?

Anyway I will defend the City In Which I Reside In against its, erm, misrepresentations; so I'm cityist I guess.

All of the above. For all its faults, I do love my country, Minnesota is an exceptional state to live in, I appreciate my county and its being a Dem stronghold for so long, Duluth has been ranked before as the best city in the country to live, and I have a very friendly and inoffensive neighborhood.

Nationalist, though not really for the United States. Not statist, as I have very little attachment to California. I am a proud resident of the City and County and lord it over my East Bay-dwelling coworkers, so I count for options three and four as well. Not really neighborhoodist, though I am concerned about the long-term decline of the neighborhood where I live.

Was anybody worried this would say 'racist'?

Anyway I will defend the City In Which I Reside In against its, erm, misrepresentations; so I'm cityist I guess.

I thought it might say fascist. I was prepared to vote that in protest of a dumb poll if it actually did.

I definitely consider myself an American nationalist and prefer that term over that of "patriot" since it affirms the existence of an American nation separate from various nations that came to our shores. For that reason, I have a strong affinity for our national symbols and songs although at the same time I'm disgusted by its appropriation by certain reactionary political factions. Any vibrant American liberalism must seize and claim for its own the national tradition of the Untied States of America.

I also strongly identify with my home state of California and admire its rich landscape, history, and culture. Same with Orange County-the unfair and vicious caricature of mein heimatland as still some bastion of philistine and reactionary Bircherites living in endless miles of tract housing that was barely accurate even 50 years ago on this forum and elsewhere has made me particularly defensive for her honour. I do like my city but identity in Orange County is definitely more directed towards the county rather than city level IMO. Ditto with my neighbourhood which admittedly is rather unremarkable.

You have "countyist" and "cityist" in the wrong order. Tongue

(Take a wild guess which two I voted for.  State-ist might also apply, but I'm more of a pan-Northeastern type of guy.)

I am not a nationalist, but rather a proletarian internationalist. I don't particularly have any attachment to Illinois, but I am rather fond of both Kentucky and the United States as a whole, not out of any real nationalist feeling but out of a kind of patriotism and recognition of the United States as a nation with a special role to play in the future development of the class struggle and, of course, as my home.

I prefer the countryside to the city, rural areas to suburban and urban areas, and the small to medium sized town over the metropolis.

I'm fairly nationalistic so I picked that one.  I enjoy travel and I enjoy exotica, but in the end I always love coming home where everything is "normal."

I am also rather picky about what neighborhood I live in--we moved to Manheim Township for the schools, and this part of Manheim Township because it is within walking distance of a liquor store and an indoor pool and jacuzzi--so I voted neighborhoodist as well.

Nation and neighborhood seem important, but I'm not too picky about second- and third-order political subdivisions, assuming that each state, county, and city has at least one neighborhood that I like within commuting distance from gainful employment.

I do love this country, but I cannot call myself a nationalist. I have my own sense of patriotism, but I do not all identify with the right-wing hijacking of the term and what they've tried to turn it in to. I feel very strongly about California, so I suppose I would fall under the "statist" option in this poll.  Without a doubt, I believe California is one of the best places in the world to live and is without question the best state in the union. For the lower options, I can't say I feel strongly one way or the other. There are counties and cities I prefer over others, but that's about it.

I'm more pro-Nova Scotia than pro-Canada Tongue. Most of the non-Maritime provinces are kind of jerks.
