A great example of why no one should ever hop on the libertarian train. The flawed ideology almost always meanders into dangerous policy ideas such as this.

One thing I've noticed is that, by and large, physicians-turned-politicians are either crazy or Horrible People. I can't think of any who were remotely effective as public officials, other than, perhaps, John Kitzhaber.

Paul's vaccines comments are certainly worse than Christie's, especially as he is a doctor. But it is a symptom of how his Libertarianism can sink him. We saw this before when he waffled on the Civil Rights Act, with his purity for freedom making him seemingly defend 'whites only' businesses.  I suspect that during the bright lights of a full campaign and debates there will be other instances of this, and possibly fatal ones.

As usual, when I call something, I will declare victory. From June 2013...

I'm sure the pubs are thrilled to have Biden walking around pissed off so that the Gaffe Master General will say something entirely stupid.

I do heart Joe, though.

Speaking of gaffes, Biden, Rand Paul and the Gaffe Master General, I am pronouncing a changing of the guard: Rand Paul has replaced Biden as Gaffe Master General.

This is why I think he's not a credible candidate.

My sense is that mandatory vaccination is not a majority position in the US.  I hope I am wrong.

Yeah, because libertarians totally support what he said Roll Eyes

it is, though for some reason young people are the least supportive of it.

Because they have never had to seriously worry about infectious diseases worse than the flu (except for certain international travel)

He was on Laura Ingraham and discusses this position in a more nuanced way. You can find it on an iTunes podcast.

I don't really understand all the consternation about his comments. Vaccines do have downsides, that's why there are warning labels, which have no doubt resulted in real life tragedies. There are also obvious benefits from vaccinations, which would cover exposure to those not vaccinated. It's really an individual/family's choice of the risk vs. reward.

Not to mention how vulnerable young people are to far-out fluff such as Jenny McCarthy-ism.

Let the Progressives froth at the mouth, brother.  They'll look for anything to go after Randal on.
