The US (home advantage and strong team) and Austria (always good on US snow and good team) are expected to dominate, but I wouldn't rule out some surprising wins.

First race, first Gold medal for Salzburg (... uhhhhm, Austria) !

Smiley

(Too bad another Austrian placed 4th, which is the so called "iron medal". 4th places just don't matter in WCs, but nonetheless a really good performance from Conny Hütter).

2nd place: Tina Maze (Slovenia)
3rd place: Lindsey Vonn (USA)

Today, the women's downhill race takes place.

The medal favorites are basically the same 3 that I posted above for the Super-G, plus Tina Maze (SLO), Viktoria Rebensburg (GER) and Elisabeth Görgl (AUT).

Lindsey Vonn (USA) is of course the heavy favorite for the Gold medal, but our girls will certainly give her a run for the money ... Wink

Tina Maze (SLO) wins the downhill today, only 0.02 seconds ahead of Anna Fenninger (AUT) and Lara Gut (SUI):

Men's downhill race starts in 45 minutes.

Once again perfect conditions in Beaver Creek: sunny day and icy slope.

A really "black day" for Austria yesterday.

The worst performance in a downhill race since, well, ever - which is since the 1930s (when the WCs started).

On the other hand, the Swiss had a perfect day - winning Gold and Bronze and their other 2 racers in the Top-10 too.

Travis Ganong (USA) won the Silver medal.

1 - Marcel Hirscher (AUT)
2 - Kjetil Jansrud (NOR)
3 - Ted Ligety (USA)

Today, the women's combined (downhill+slalom) takes place.

Tina Maze of course can only beat herself on the way to Gold and the Austrian girls have good chances for a medal too.

Tina "A-Maze-ing" won Gold and we won Silver and Bronze.

Yesterday, we also won the Gold medal at the Nations Team Event (Parallel Slalom).

Silver = Canada
Bronze = Sweden

Men's Giant Slalom today.

Basically a battle between Hirscher (AUT) and Ligety (USA).

Maybe Pinturault (FRA) or Neureuther (GER) will get a medal too.

Recap:

With the WCs finished yesterday, the final medal table looks like this ...

4th best WCs for us of all time.
