Susana Martinez if she can be persuaded, otherwise Shelley Moore Capito.

I don't think they can pick multiple people (women indeed), but Susana Martinez would be an amazing vice presidential nominee.

I'm actually going to say no if you mean against Hillary.  Nominating a woman for the VP slot sends exactly the wrong message when the other team has a woman running for the top slot.  I do think it would be greatly in their interest to also nominate a woman for president if running against Hillary.  That looks unlikely, though.

I think Walker/Rice would be the best ticket.

But Rice is pro-choice and not married.

Yes, but Walker is without any foreign policy experience.

I would actually say no. Assuming a white male candidate, I think they would be best off picking a minority male as their VP. You can't beat Hillary at her own game, and a female #2 won't steal any votes from a female lead candidate.

I still think Rubio is the best possible VP. Conservative enough to match up with a candidate like Walker, while not being off-putting. He's also pretty disciplined, and not prone to gaffes.

They should have women on the shortlist.

It would look bad if it's obvious that they're picking a woman for the sake of picking a woman.

But Condoleeza Rice, Kelly Ayotte, Susanna Martinez and Nikki Haley are conventionally qualified to be on a national ticket. Carly Fiorina could also be a match for certain candidates, especially after a strong primary showing.

No - they don't have one that can stand up to the scrutiny. Martinez doesn't want to and for good reason. She's less interested in publicy policy than Palin.

They shouldn't pick a woman for the sake of picking a woman, that's for sure.

Kelly Ayotte would be a decent choice. I still think Romney should've picked her in 2012 rather than Ryan.

A slight advantage for the party is that the number of qualified individuals means it isn't as suspicous if they pick someone who isn't conventionally qualified. So if Joni Ernst or Carly Fiorina gets the nod, it won't be solely because the ticket needed a woman, given the availability of Haley, McMorris Rodgers, Fallin, Ayotte and Martinez.

Yes. Ayotte, Blackburn, Martinez, Haley, McMorris Rodgers would be good choices. Blackburn would be the safest female VP choice. She won't embarrass the ticket.

There'll certainly be one or more on the short list.  Ayotte's an obvious choice, but she'll be up for reelection, so might not even agree to be vetted.  Martinez is kind of overrated.  Picking a governor with no Washington experience is risky, because they're not necessarily going to be up to speed on national issues, never having had to deal with issues beyond their home state.  And there isn't a whole lot of time to bone up on this stuff before you get thrust into the spotlight rather suddenly.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers seems like a better choice.  Though since she joined the House leadership two years ago, she may now be too closely associated with an unpopular Congress.  We'll see though.  That may or may not be a prime consideration for whoever the presidential nominee is.

Susanna Martinez should be seriously considered and probably chosen for VP for whoever wins the nomination.

What about an off the wall pick for VP here if an older man gets it lets say bush ( he does great with Hispanics and speaks the language fluently) / Def could be reaching here since she just got elected but would be interesting, what about Mia Love as VP for bush, young, good speaker, and could help with the African american vote, while bush should do better than most republicans with the Hispanic vote.

Blackburn will stick to the GOP line. She won't say something out of turn.

So the perfect female Republican VP candidate is one that shuts up and does what she's told, how progressive.
