There'll certainly be one or more on the short list.  Ayotte's an obvious choice, but she'll be up for reelection, so might not even agree to be vetted.  Martinez is kind of overrated.  Picking a governor with no Washington experience is risky, because they're not necessarily going to be up to speed on national issues, never having had to deal with issues beyond their home state.  And there isn't a whole lot of time to bone up on this stuff before you get thrust into the spotlight rather suddenly.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers seems like a better choice.  Though since she joined the House leadership two years ago, she may now be too closely associated with an unpopular Congress.  We'll see though.  That may or may not be a prime consideration for whoever the presidential nominee is.
