What do you guys think of the idea of creating a story that people can influence?

Like, a TV show except instead of having a handful of writers, viewers can influence what happens, and even who the characters are. We've seen different variations on the concept of consumer input such as the Choose Your Own Adventure book series, American Idol, Atlas Fantasy elections, fan fiction, and yes Ingress, but it's never been taken to its logical conclusion of straight up consumer input into a traditionally, professionally produced drama, fantasy, sci fi, etc. narrative/epic.

Could such a thing even work? Would it be fun?

Some really cheap soaps (such as horrifyingly popular British daytime medical melodrama Doctors) essentially do this already (i.e. viewers send in scripts). The results are not good.
