Low crime, obviously. That doesn't mean every low crime area is better than every higher crime area, but to deny that lower crime is a good thing is ridiculous.

High crime, Bed-Stuy do or die for life.

As Werner Herzog has said, "It's very exhilarating to be shot at without success."

I suppose Colombia is 'high crime' but this country's awesome.

If there were three hipster Christian cities in Minnesota, and all of them were the same except one had a low crime rate, one had a medium crime rate, and one had a high crime rate, which would you choose?

Would you have lived in the Bed-Stuy of the late 80's, early 90's?

BTRD, I see the point you are trying to make.  Considering such, the way to phrase this poll would've been, "would you rather live in a TYPICAL high crime, TYPICAL medium crime, or TYPICAL low crime area. And yes, I would also take midtown Minneapolis over a suburb.

Exactly. I think some posters here are missing that.

For me, I voted medium, but I mean more like medium-low. Just not the lowest as that would usually mean rural (or outer suburban) and dull, or expensive.

ITT: Upper-middle-class liberals romanticizing life in the hood despite the fact that they lock their car doors when they go into an urban drugstore for five minutes.

High crime is the best, but only if it's purely non-violent crime, like jaywalking, posting copyrighted material on internet message boards, and ripping the tag off a mattress before selling it.

Unless you live in the most dangerous part of Mogadishu, you are basically living in a sheltered bubble of privilege.

Do people ever not lock their car doors, regardless of geography? Sounds like disturbing behavior to me.

It's common for white people to immediately lock their car door when they see a black man walking by.

To answer the question: no crime.  I've lived in a low-income, high-crime area for the past year and a half.  There have been multiple shootings and stabbings while I've been living here and there's even a small memorial on the corner of a nearby street for someone who (presumably) was killed by a gang.  Poverty isn't fun, crime isn't fun, and I would gladly trade places with someone who doesn't live somewhere surrounded by poverty and violence.

Huh? Brodie you don't gotta makes it out to seem like white people suspect black people of crime just for being black. Unless you're an idiot you lock your car whenever you leave it.

Quote from: Barack Obama, a black man
There are very few African American men in this country who haven't had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store.  That includes me.  There are very few African American men who haven't had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars.  That happens to me -- at least before I was a senator.  There are very few African Americans who haven't had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off.  That happens often.
