If anything actually comes of this, the Secretary of State would become Governor (no LG in OR), which would trigger a 2016 special election.

Sounds like The Oregonian is being a bunch of sore losers.

Republicans do stuff worse than this all the time, and it never gets reported.

JW how is Scott a criminal?

I agree he might be divisive etc. But how has he acted in an illegal manner during his time as Governor? As I'm just curious.

He's literally a criminal when it comes to his pre-governor business dealings, but I don't think he has been accused of impropriety as governor.

Please don't resign. We only have a handful of Dem governors as it is.

Isn't the Oregon SoS a Democrat too? And wouldn't this be better to have a scandal-free Democrat run in 2016 than to have scandal-ridden Kitzhaber poisoning the well all the way to 2018, especially if Hillary is elected President?

If Kate Brown moves up to Governor, she will be Oregon's second female governor and first openly bisexual governor in the country.

She wouldn't come to the office of Governor with zero baggage, though this is certainly weaksauce baggage:

He should resign. Kate Brown (SoS) would be a better governor. Kitz has made mistakes like CoverOregon and his corruption started surfacing before November (which is why he didn't get >50%).

If he does resign on his own will he needs to do it sooner than later to keep the damage done to the party minimal.

Rumours swirling he may resign. Brown flew back to Salem today, unconfirmed reports of an emergency cabinet meeting on Twitter.

This is shady, yes, but I don't know why he has to resign because of what something somebody did other than himself.

What Kasich has done is so much worse, but nobody makes him resign.

Damn. I was hoping for that, but only because Kate Brown is madrileña and it'd be cool to have a Spanish-born person governing a state in the USA Tongue

WTF: Brown says when she met Kitzhaber yesterday he asked her why she was there, said he wasn't resigning but then began talking transition. AP said yesterday Kitzhaber initially planned to resign but changed his mind.

At least Kate Brown seems to be untouched by this.

According to local news sources, he was going to resign tomorrow, but changed his mind after meeting with Ms. Hayes and his lawyer.
