Are your politics similar or quite different from the average Joe's where you live?

Personally, I'm a mixed bag compared to my part of the country:

Socially: While Nova Scotia is somewhat more socially conservative than the rest of Canada, my social views are just too extreme to fit in there.

Economically: Perfect fit. Nova Scotia is heaven for red Tories*, so my love of big government conservatism fits in nicely there.

*Seriously, even the NDP are red Tories here.

I'm clearly to the left of my area.  While Sioux Falls is more moderate than South Dakota overall, the city still probably voted for Romney (though Obama did carry Sioux Falls in 2008).

Aside from politics, it's not a bad place to live.  People here are mostly polite, and my temperament is suited for the area.

Socially about the same, maybe slightly left; there are some crazy Evangelical science-deniers but most people aren't like that
Economically: somewhat to the right

Outside of politics, Des Moines is just a nice place to live.  I like Iowa and it's pretty hard to beat people here in friendliness.

Given that the 'average voter' tends to be middle class and comfortable financially, not at all similar.

Completely to the left, in every position imaginable by a lot.

My area of Virginia is the area from which the Byrd machine was based, and one of the areas that resisted desegregation.

(For Waltham, MA)

Socially: Solidly to the right on abortion and gun control, otherwise more or less in line with public opinion on social issues.

Economically: Probably slightly to the left given my support for massive infrastructure spending, further health care reform/expansion to the German model, and removing the payroll tax cap on SS but not too dissimilar.

I live in one of the furthest left places in the country, especially on social issues. Needless to say, I'm quite a bit to the right on pretty much every issue.

I'm a pretty standard voter for the Inner West of Sydney (which is probably the most left-wing of Australia).

Overall similar in that Arlington, VA is votes very Democratic, but I'm much more socially conservative than most here.

Not very. I'm in a very conservative part of NH as it is, but I'll probably find a bunch of people who are similar to me if I go a few minutes northeast.

My campus most likely leans liberal (although Democratic presence on campus is a disaster), but as for Lancaster County? Hahahahahahaha.

I'm not an inner-suburban centrist, so no. This district is full of people who are "too rich to vote NDP, too smart to vote Tory" (doctors, etc) plus public servants and loyally Liberal immigrants/minorities.

While, the average voter may be middle class (especially because that term has no real definition and just about everybody claims it), he is very much not comfortable financially. The average person is drowning in debt, has very little job security, and is one unexpected bad turn away from bankruptcy. This is true even of many people with above average incomes.

On state and local issues, I find myself very comfortable with the left wing artistic, intellectual and gay gentry of my hood. My views about teachers' unions are also widely shared. Smiley As to the lower middle and working class, they feel ignored by the largely incompetent power structure, and ill served, and I agree with them.

Very much to the left of both my township and county. Montgomery County is pretty liberal, but I'm way beyond that. To be fair, however, I don't think there's a single county in the US that I'd be to the right of.

In South Carolina I'm generally to the right fiscally, around the same socially on balance I guess.  The people down here are much more interventionist than back in KY though.

Even though conservatives have won this district at times, Liberals + NDP + Green always get >50% so the average voter isn't that different from me. Although I would be more of a social democrat compared to the average voter who would be a social liberal. We have an NDP MPP and a Conservative MP, the latter winning by a really narrow margin in 2011 and should be replaced by a Liberal this year, and all my reps in the municipal government (councillor, mayor, regional chair, school board) are all left-leaning. So after 2015 my politics should be similar to all of my representatives.

I'm slightly to the left socially, although as a whole the area is fairly socially liberal.  I am a bit more to the left on fiscal and law and order type issues.

Hard to say, as I've only lived here just under three years and may not have a thorough feel.  I suspect that I'm in a minority with regard to issues like legalization of prostitution and marijuana.  I also generally vote against the incumbent school board members and other local elected officials.  Still, I think I'm mostly in agreement with regards to millage rates and spending priorities in the township.  I share the typical suburban cookie-cutter bourgeoisie attitudes with regards to good schools, streets, and sidewalks, I suppose, and although I regard individualism highly, I do favor certain restrictive codes such as those forbidding someone from installing a mobile home in my neighborhood.

Overall I'd say somewhat similar.

Definitely to the left (rural area in Austria's most conservative state), economically and even more so socially
My area brings FPÖ and ÖVP vote combined easily above 60%, maybe even 70% in state elections; which says everything I believe
