This is a good idea, and I certainly support it. Might we amend it so that at least one slot on the Senate floor is always open for a publicly submitted bill?

I echo Senator TNF's comments, and I am also supportive of his proposal to add another Senate floor specifically reserved for such public proposals.

Good idea, and I agree with TNF's idea.

What would be the mechanism for public initiated Bills?

Surely, they could just contact a Senator to introduce it?

Technically this already exists in the Senate Protest and Analysis thread and legislation has been introduced after being posted there in the past or at least something similar to said legislation.

I am hessitant to create another stickied thread when it is largely overlaping with an already existing one.

Senators have 36 hours to object to TNF's amendment

It's worth pointing out that the senate protest and analysis thread is well over the allowed maximum. A Public Consultation Thread would also probably be much more likely to attract public contribution than one called the Senate Protest and Analysis Thread.

From here I think we'll need to amend the senate rules and it would make sense to lock and desticky the protest and analysis thread as well.

Are y'all trying to corral people like me from getting sassy in these threads when I take interest? Tongue

I could be wrong here, but as Yankee said, there's basically already a thread that serves this purpose. It might actually be a better idea to have it stickied on the FE board, since a good chunk of this game seems to not even know this board exists.

It's true that a thread like this already exists, but it's both over the 2000 post limit and the title is completely unclear about the fact that citizens can post in it.

I think the terminology matters - Senate protest and analysis doesn't make clear what we want. We want the public more engaged and we want their thoughts. Also, bringing it into the main page is a good idea too.

It was my intent to change the thread a year ago but then I found myself trapped by the old rules language. The PPT may change the thread within the first week... or something like that. Problem is there isn't a PPT in the first week of a Senate.

Anyway, provided the old one is dispensed with first, then I could see supporting this.

TNF's amendment has passed

At some point later today I'll have an amendment up joining together what's been talked about here.

General Senate Discussion is very similar in name to the off and on used thread that BK created back in 2010.

Cris is right if we want public engagement, it should come right out and say Public Submission or something similar in the name.

My basic reasoning is to have a thread open in AFE for citizens to make general senate comments, as that board is busier and more active. That said, that board already has a lot of stickied thread so it would be wasteful to have two separate senate threads. Perhaps combining them into a Public Senatorial Discussion and Submission Thread?

The reason we need to keep a general discussion thread on AFG is for discussing things like senate rules which don't neatly fit into individual bill's debate.
