Minnesota: A sensible moderate former Democrat, who supports civil unions but opposes gay marriage. He was once the typical DFL voter, but has now been driven away by a regrettable tide of social liberalism, and an outrageous refusal to come to the bargaining table with the Republican Party.

An Iron Range Dem or Southern MN Dem. They voted for Rod Gramms in 1994 but not 2000. They also oppose gun control and are prolife.

By closeted I mean a closeted Republican, though really either could work.
