I'll go with Washington, because I like the Portland area.

Too much traffic and a ridiculous cost of living in Vancouver BC.

Have had serious discussions about moving to the first. Won't be happening, though, or not for a few years, at least. Still an incredibly beautiful city. BC is such a gorgeous province.

Vancouver, Washington is basically a series of nondescript subdevelopments.  It has a decent location and a small historical downtown.  A few parts have nice views of the Columbia River.  Otherwise, it's basically sprawl built to avoid Portland housing costs and income tax.

Vancouver, B.C. is a gorgeous, comfortable city with great transit-oriented development, and an impressive degree of vibrancy for a not-huge city.  It's a little too quiet to be a truly world-class city, and it's definitely not cheap, but it's objectively one of the best places to live I've ever seen.

Unless you love outer-ring suburbs or care about affordability above everything else, I don't think this should be a hard choice.  (Plus, with the Canadian dollar where it is right now...)

Vancouver, British Columbia. Not only is Vancouver, Washington a by many accounts kind of boring and dingy suburb, it's a by many accounts kind of boring and dingy suburb of Portland.

Obviously Number 1 if I somehow won the Powerball jackpot. Otherwise, I would choose option 2 and live in Vancouver while getting all my shopping done across the river in PDX

British Columbia.  In terms of politics and government policy, Washington state has become the buttcrack of America.

Really? Washington seems pretty inoffensively Democratic in most respects. I'd expect you to be more down on one of those Southern states where Democrats were still in power on the state level until recently, like Mississippi or Arkansas. Or maybe Vermont.

lol at the idea that you'd prefer the government policy of BC to Washington.

Anyways, I'd chose BC for the reasons people have already stated.
