Probably because he's gotten considerably richer, fatter and meaner than he was in 2008.

What's hilarious is i actually thought he was a formidable candidate back in 2008. He was extremely personable and would win the who do you want to have a beer with contest easily. Yes he was pretty socially conservative but then he was also a bit of a populist and could win the support of Labor unions and other economic moderates turned off by 8 years of hard right Conservative governance during the Bush years.

I guess since then with the election of the great Black threat, Huckabee like the rest of the Republican party has had to get angrier, fatter and more out of touch with society.

This doesn't bode well for the Huckabee campaign.

Slightly OT, but Wayne's views on race, politics, and foreign affairs were absolutely atrocious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wayne#Politics.

What's sad is that out of the entire 2008 primary field, Huckabee was the one I liked the best, even with his evangelical views (most certainly not my corner of Christianity) because he seemed genuinely concerned about poverty, had a kind of Clinton-esque charm, and was bucking the establishment in a non-Tea Party fashion. I think we saw the real Huck in '08 (note that I wasn't as committed a Democrat back then) and that this new creature is a cynical ploy to appeal to the lowest common denominator and, in all likelihood, sling his book. Too bad.

Holy sh**t. The Native Americans "were selfishly trying to keep [the land] for themselves."

Having to read a Mike Huckabee quote is obviously much worse than a sunburn.

In commenting on Huck's statement that Obama offers "unfailing support [for] the Muslim community", Peter Beinart recaps Huckabee's history of Islamophobia:

Yeah, that "irresponsible blacks" garbage was particularly awful. Still, I always wondered where his support for the Panama Canal Treaty came from. Apparantly exposure to Panamanians through his first wife.
