"For thousands of years, marriage has been defined as the sacred union of one man and one woman. We believe that America is made stronger by traditional marriage. Justice Kennedy, over to you."

Option 2 probably. But if there's enough of a fuss, it could be option 1.

They'll want to be done with it when 2016 comes around. Option 4

Option 1.. Anyone who expects them to say something else doesn't realize how much of a bind they've put themselves in.

It will probably say something like that it should be left up to the states. That's generally a good cop-out answer to most questions.

The consensus among the party leadership will be option 4, they'll publicly push for option 2, but pressure from the base will leave the party stuck with option 1.

It will probably be some convoluted nonsense about state's rights that amounts to democratizing a social minority's civil liberties.

Probably nothing. It's a losing issue. It will have been decided in the US Supreme Court by then. It excites the base and offends everyone else.

The hardcore base will want number one but the establishment will manage to soften it into number two.

NOTA. It won't support a constitutional amendment but it won't call it settled law and
will mention something about opposing judicial activism.

Option two is by far the most likely. Option four will be seen as caving on the issue so that will not be accepted. Maybe 2020 or later they'll support it in their platform.

Same as the last few cycles. Maybe by 2024 they might stop talking about it.

2012 platform has option 1 and i cant imagine them straying far from that. The grassroots tend to control the platform committees. Remember just last year the TX GOP platform adopted a plank for (completely debunked) gay reparitive therapy. It might be option 2 but certainly wont be any of the others, even if the party elites wish this would just go away.
