I don't understand why Bushie can't simply stop buying packs of soda from the grocery store. It's not like this stuff rains from the sky. He has no problem not putting vegetables in his shopping cart; just extend the same principle to coke.

Everything you just said is correct, and I know how hard it could be. Just remember what someone said pages back. It takes quite awhile to break an addiction (20 days?). I gave up Coke for Lent two years ago when I drank it all the time. Now I can effectively manage it to about two a week.

I know you can do it too if you can withhold cheat days on that (Sunday exceptions were not used by me). Breaking a habit is hard, but it requires focus. It's probably much harder for you with the lack of an obvious alternative, but have you tried anything else? Even stuff like iced tea is marginally better. What about Coke Zero? Switch that in for water now and then. (I presume that's not too bad. Haven't heard much about it.)

The first step in breaking an addiction is admitting there is an addiction.

So are you ready to try my soda challenge? No soda period on Mondays. Only water.

Yes. No more soda on Mondays. He may have the occasional Sunkist or Root Beer, but no more Coke products!

And Memorial Day is a cheat. Labor Day too. You can't expect him to not cheat on Columbus Day either, can you? He refuses, that is, flat out refuses to limit his enjoyment of the Columbus Day holiday.

Also, if he's visiting his family, or anyone else for that matter, and they offer him soda on a Monday, then he can't refuse, as that would be rude.

Good Wednesday Morning.  There has been some freezing rain and sleet falling outside for most of the morning, although we are in a dry slot now.  More sleet and then snow should fill in over the next hour or two and stick around through the evening.  The snow amounts don't look to be excessively high, maybe only 1-2", but the glaze of ice underneath is the bigger issue.  All in all, we're going to avoid a major winter storm because the roads are still moving, but getting more slick.  All the schools shut down last night in anticipation of the storm.  This is only their 3rd snow day of the year and Tulsa Schools have 5 days built in to their calendar and 3 make-up days beyond that and this looks to be the last winter storm of the season, hopefully, as we're supposed to be back in the 50's and 60's to near 70 this weekend and early next week.

I think the reason why Mom was a little hesitant about the new job is every time there has been physical labor I "hid under the bed"..  She's right, I have shied away from a lot of physical labor in my nearly 33 years, but I reassured her that I am more mature now and ready to settle into a career.  I've got to prove to her that I can do this and that I'm not blowing hot air.

God, for once Mama is spot on.  And don't lie, more than a "little" hesitant.

I was accurate there.  She was just a little hesitant.  She's not anymore as she trusts me to know what I'm doing and trust me not to blow this opportunity away.

I like how Mama's reaction to Bushie working at [Redacted] was equivalent to that of a mother learning her son was going to enlist in the Army.

I love how Bushie's parents still treat him like he's 6 years old. It never gets old listening to how they react when he tries to do something an adult would do!

FWIW, Dad was fully on board immediately.  In fact, he was almost giddy about it.  Mom was never opposed, and in fact, now she is fully on board with this as well.  They are both happy about one thing - their youngest son has a job...

Ha, I just voted for 225.  My goal for 364 days from now is obviously lower, but not giving myself the benefit of the doubt, I voted 225.  I seriously doubt, even with a lot of hard work, I will weigh under 200 lbs by then.

I just weighed this morning, and I weigh 274.4, which is actually a decrease of a half pound in the last 48 hours.  I was almost sure I would be 277, at least.  274.4 is by no means a glorious number, but just being 3 pounds under what I thought I would be is okay.  My first goal by June 20, is 260 lbs.

Why do you bring this up?   What is your purpose other than public shaming?

I hoping reading posts like that kicks you into gear. You need to be working at weight loss all the time, or before we know it it will be March 2017 and we will be looking back at this moment as yet another moment you could have started losing weight.

I'm hoping this grocery store job will spark a new lifestyle within me being around healthier, natural foods for 8 hours a day.  I imagine and hope I will be around healthier people as a result.  Perhaps the influence from those two sources and the tips I can glean from them will spur me on to a lower weight.  In the mean time, I am going to start walking again and increase my water intake/decrease my DDP intake.  When I do have a cheat day, I will still try to order something that is not as fattening.

A funny bit of context:

Homer Simpson has long been held up as the typical American fat, even though he is a fictional character. In the show's 26 seasons, he's constantly mocked for his weight. People are so familiar with the series that they can draw comparisons: they don't want to be "Homer Simpson fat."

The show says that Homer is about six feet tall (although one episode says that he's exactly the same height as Mel Gibson, which would be 5'10").

In early seasons, the "fat" Homer weighs 239 pounds. In the latest seasons, his weight has increased (probably to keep pace with American expectations of what "fat" is), and he says the scale told him he was 260. In one episode, he was home-bound at 300 pounds.

You're probably not a Simpsons watcher, Jeff, but you're undoubtedly familiar with Homer Simpson's place in pop culture. Just an interesting comparison -- the animated world's version of morbid obesity is at least two inches taller and 25 pounds lighter than you.

You've got some work to do.

Nah, Homer was never monstrously fat. Just sort of "average" fat. Chief Wiggum and Comic Book Guy are both noticably fatter than Homer. Fat inflation is a real thing though. I remember seeing Roseanne back in the 90s and she and John Goodman looked really damn fat. I see those episodes now, and they're still fat, but no longer in a shocking way.

Bushie's fantasy dream life is some kind of twisted hybrid of Leave It To Beaver, The Waltons, and that newer sitcom on CBS that stars those two fat *****.

Brutal home loss for Tulsa with that pair of missed free throws followed by a three. Still believe? I'm thinking "First Four" at this point. That SMU game will be great.

It will be a close call.  The SMU game will determine it.  If we win, we're in.  If we lose, it's NIT.

EDIT:  Just saw that Oklahoma State snapped it's 4 game losing streak just in time to position themselves better for the Big Dance.

Also, Russell Westbrook notched his 4th straight triple-double in the Thunder's win against the Philadelphia 76ers.  He's the first player since Michael Jordan in 1989 to accomplish such a feat.  Westbrook also achieved career highs in both points (49) and rebounds (16).  Given the circumstances that Oklahoma City has faced this season, he should be the MVP of the 2014-2015 season.

I don't know ... http://youtu.be/RQXzOE12xuM

You're right, John Goodman just looks a little swollen now. Our perceptions have been skewed so much in just 20 years.

He works at a nuclear power plant. Are there any near you? They seem to be surprisingly lax with the large amount of work he misses.

bushie, when employed, do you drink a lot of soda on the job?

Half the reason fats are fats in this country is the obscene amount of sugar they digest which tells their poor bodies to store all that fat they eat.  First we condition kids to love sweet drinks through the Juicy Juice and whatnot because we think the vitamin benefits outweigh the sugar (they don't) and then they grow up to be like Bushie and normal water becomes unpalatable.  I'm someone who was raised on lots of juice but luckily my metabolism is very, very high.  To this day I don't particularly like to drink plain water most of the time, but I instead take a glass of water and splash a bit of juice in it for a little flavor, which is all I need.  Bushie's sweet tooth has gotten to the point that it seems only soda will give him that massive amount of sugar he needs.

Sad, but it's the result of a country with a sick and disgusting diet.  We probably need some nanny state action, but for our gaggle of stupid ***** even Michelle Obama merely recommending a vegetable other than pizza is too much socialism for them to take.

People don't need to be "conditioned" to like sugar. It releases a quick rush of dopamine on the brain. Bushie is a hardcore junkie, not in cute and hyperbolic metaphorical way, but in a literal, can't control this substance even though it is slowly killing him, sense. This is way beyond his ability to control.
