Eraser, it's time to start accepting votes for the title of Update Season XXII.

There's only one possible option:

Update XXII: Cleaning Up the Meat at [redacted]

This title is Bushie-approved. Smiley

I am really going to have to be disciplined with my attendance in this new job.  I will get no vacation or sick days until October 1 and even then I will have only 1 sick day to use before the end of the year and about 1 day (9 hours) of vacation time to use before December 31.  (I don't know if my vacation hours will reset on January 1 or April 1, 2016).  This will be a big change for me, but I believe I can be disciplined and focused.  This is going to involve me using my off hours wisely and take care of my health so I don't have the urge to call in sick period.  I should be fine, though.  I want to do everything I can to keep this job, so I'm not going to call in.

When was the last time you went 6 months without using a sick day?

As far as the family dinners, with my erratic schedule that I'm anticipating, I will be out of luck when it comes to said meals for quite a while, because I won't be able to go back to my parents for probably several weeks, if not a few months.  That's not a bad thing.

It hasn't happened.  That doesn't mean it can't start now, because it must.

If Bushie had lost a pound for every time he said he was finally going to "take care of his health", he'd be dangerously anorexic right now.

Yawn. More focus on focusing. No action. Your mind has been focused on losing weight and not getting sick forever. Your body needs to do heavy lifting if it's gonna happen

I'm afraid he won't last a month at this new job. He'll get a grade 8 headache after binging on chocolate cake and miss a day and they'll fire him on the spot.

I wish I was more optimistic but we all know how this will end.

Damn, cell phone plans seem expensive in the US. I pay about $30/month for unlimited calls and texts, 10 GBs of data at high speed and then unlimited at low speed. That doesn't include one of those scams to make you overpay for a phone though, that I had to get separately. But still.

And even $30 is rather high (here at least). But yeah, the US seems to be extremely expensive.

Nothing compared to here.

I have 2.5gb, unlimited texts and $700 worth of calls for $91 per month.

Americans tip a lot don't they? It's less formal here.

(Yes, I know why as well).

I tip 25-30% base unless I'm literally told to go **** myself.

Data speeds in the United States tend to be slower than in Europe and Asia, while simultaneously being more expensive. It's a consequence of trying to jam what should clearly be a public utility into a private enterprise box run by one or two corporate behemoths.

Don't cell networks in Europe get tons of EU subsidies?

In Europe, cell phone providers are required to make service available to a set percentage of the country (in the U.K., it's 98% I think). Here in the U.S., carriers can focus their efforts only on areas with high population density or low participation by other carriers. This leads to less direct competition, which means higher prices. Do you really have a choice in cell carriers if Verizon is the only one that doesn't drop your calls every 2 minutes? Is T-Mobile a real option for you if your phone can only connect to a 3G data network when you use it?

European carriers also required to sell access to their infrastructure to smaller competitors at fairly negotiated rates. In that way, a smaller competitor doesn't need to build its own multi-billion dollar infrastructure to start up business -- it merely needs to pay fair market rate for access to the infrastructure that's already built. (This is how land line service works in the U.S., but not mobile service.)

In short, government regulation in Europe leads to more private companies with more competition between them. Things are more expensive in the U.S. because cell phone service and data is not regulated as a utility.

I have a T-Mobile plan, $30 for unlimited texts, 5 GB 4G data, and 100 minutes. Since nobody uses their cell phone for calling anymore, I rarely hit the minute cap (when I do, I can pay 10 cents a minute for extras). It's a pretty damn good deal here. Every other plan I looked at was at least $50 for that much data (though those also had unlimited minutes).

Not a bad deal, but T-Mobile has no native coverage in North Dakota (even the urban areas), meaning if I got a plan with them I'd be screwed on very weak roaming only whenever I visited home.
