The Atlasian Eagle
February the 12th

Record Prosecution and Unprecedented Impeachments Lead to Doubt about Justice

For weeks now, tensions have been rising among the political class. President Lumine and Attorney General ZuWo have overseen an unprecedented level of criminal prosecution while in office. Similarly, Senator windjammer of the Mideast has gained infamy for his impeachment-happy tenure thus far. The Administration's prosecutions have led to the purging of several voters and Windjammer's impeachment proceedings have caused the resignation of a cabinet official and has forced an At-Large Senator and VP Nominee to consider leaving the game.

Confidence in the judicial system has been eroding for some time. Former Dear Leader of the Labor Politburo Adam Griffin has been campaigning across the country against Attorney General ZuWo's prosecution spree. The conviction of disgraced former MW Governor LeBron Fitzgerald, Griffin asserted, was only more evidence of a "Labor Purge" being perpetrated by President Lumine.

On the other side, Supreme Court Justice Oakvale referred to the Articles of Impeachment filed by Senator Windjammer against now-former Secretary of State Potus2036 as "blatantly political." At The People's Party convention, members are voting to endorse Franzl for the Mideast Regional Senate Seat in protest of windjammer's alleged harassment of TPP At-Large Senator Baconking.

Electoral Dysfunction Breeds Fears of Chaos

After a whip count showed Secretary of State and Presidential Candidate Potus2036 was likely to be impeached and possibly barred from holding further office, he resigned his office and withdrew from the presidential election. The Secretary's running mate, IDS Speaker Maxwell, stepped up and declared his candidacy. In selecting former Northeast Governor Dallasfan65, Maxwell has formed a very libertarian ticket. Northeast Senator Bore, the Labor nominee, has not commented publicly on the electoral developments of this evening.

As is the case with any flurry of activity, fears of chaos, not unlike the days immediately following the end of the DemPGH administration, have begun to surface. Across the country, militias have formed to promote specific ideological points of view. These militias, it can be argued, threaten to usher in new disorder in conflict should the nation's recent judicial and political dysfunction worsen.

Speaker Maxwell, in conversation on IRC, recently decried the "over-eager" nature of accusers in our criminal justice system. When asked what role judicial dysfunction played in the rise of the militia, the presidential candidate said that the primary means of reducing militia membership is by making people's lives better

Given the unprecedented number of both impeachment filings and prosecutions, Speaker of the Council Turkisblau was much more blunt. "If people don't feel like the court system is working for them," the Speaker said, "then they will take other avenues to get what they perceive as justice."

The Current Eagle Projection- Senate

Northeast
Talleyrand favored
Senator Bore is leaving this seat to seek the Presidency. Looking to fill the vacancy are former Governor Talleyrand of the Labor Party, Former Vice President MattVT of The People's Party, and the right-of-center independent cinyc. The current state of the race shows that there just aren't enough votes to push the Vice President over the finish line.

Mideast
Tossup
Incumbent Senator windjammer stunned the nation in the last regional elections by unseating then-Senator Cassius in what has long been viewed as Atlasia's most conservative region. Today, the Mideast is a battleground region with Labor holding a numbers edge, though with a turnout problem. Windjammer, however, has done grave damage to his public image since going to Nyman. The senator's challenger, popular former Governor Spiral, is expected to keep this race very tight.

The South
Hagrid favored
Longtime Senator Yankee faces a serious challenge to his re-election bid. Secretary of Interior Affairs HagridoftheDeep leads the incumbent in opinion polling. The People's Party has risen to dominate the Southern political scene in recent months. This development has put Yankee on the defense, with TPP aligning themselves mostly behind Hagrid.

The Midwest
Leans TNF
Former Speaker of the IDS Dereich moved to the Midwest to challenge incumbent Senator TNF. The incumbent is always a controversial, though generally well-liked, figure in Atlasian politics. An avowed communist, TNF faces significant opposition from the center-right candidate, Speaker Dereich.

The Pacific
Cranberry lock
The uberpopular former President and incumbent Senator Cranberry is seeking re-election unopposed. The Senator will be re-elected.

The Atlasian Eagle
February the 13th

Former President Polnut Could Be Man For The Moment

At The People's Party convention, there is an ongoing fight for who will be the party's nominee in the February election. The ballot has come down to 7 votes in favor of bore at and 6 votes in favor of a draft movement in support of former President Jack Polnut. Senior TPP sources have suggested bore may be in severe danger of losing the nomination. Averroes Nix, the leader of the insurgency, has conjured images of the disastrous days of DemPGH. Windjammer, of the Labor Party, has led vitriolic and emotionally charged personal attacks on TPP institution and generally well liked guy, Senator BaconKing. This once again endangers the fragile alliance between Labor and The People.

The People's Party are, by ideology, anti-communist.

Former Senator JCL Announces Presidential Campaign
In response to the withdrawal of the conservative/libertarian unity ticket, former At-Large Senator JCL announced his intention to seek the presidency.

JCL, known for his extreme and hard-edged opinions on social issues and Israeli ultranationalism, decided to permit the convention to nominate his Vice President. This backfired when recently re-registered perennial candidate Poirot was the only person to seek the Vice Presidency. JCL reneged on this maneuver and selected a former member of the Pacific Council and advocate against children's camps Devin. The Eagle will be reaching out to the ticket for an interview shortly.

Former Secretary of State leaves Federalist Party, joins TPP
After heading off impeachment and withdrawing from the presidential race, former Secretary of State Potus2036 pushed for the disbandment of the Federalist Party in a speech to its convention. After the vote was not called, the Secretary left the party and joined The People's Party.

TPP is currently a dramatically over-represented, powerful party apparatus with control of two regions and the ability to seriously contest a third.

The People's Party are, by ideology, anti-communist.

TPP is a centrist party, not simply anti-communist. Fascists are anti-communist, too, but they would not be welcome in TPP because they are inherently a fringe ideology.

Good to see another media outlet in Atlasia!

I contest the assertion that the DoJ is in any way over-zealous and that trust in the judicial system is eroding. The number of lawsuits we have put before the Supreme Court is high but so far we have been proven right in every single instance.
Also, my job approval rating has remained at around 70% during my entire tenure so far. Surely this would be very different if the claims that the DoJ was abusing its powers were correct.

If people are unhappy with the lawsuits I suggest they put forward specific proposals to reform parts of the Atlasian criminal code just like Dereich, candidate for the Midwest Senate seat, did. Unsubstantiated criticism and paranoid propaganda from the far left won't help anyone.

Don't worry, ZuWo. The Labor Machine attacks have gone so far even people on the right blindly support it. But indeed, you've been proved right all along up to now and until there's clear evidence of the contrary, I've got your back Smiley

Corrected to make yet another factcheck to Griffin's "data". TPP only controls the Pacific. Federalists are still the plurality party in the South.

The Atlasian Eagle
February the 16th

TPP Turns In Good Performance in the Pacific

The People's Party has secured two of the three seats on the Pacific Council in the February elections. Combined with control of the Governor's Office, the TPP is now able to pass laws singlehandedly. Newly re-elected Council member and presumptive Speaker said the elections were "an excellent day for good, effective government and competitive elections."

The Pacific, a region long plagued by chronically underperforming economic indicators and inactivity, has shown signs of life under The People's Party's leadership. During the chaos following Labor President DemPGH, Governor Simfan took action to bring stability and calm to the region. Since then, the region has seen improvement on all fronts. The Eagle hopes to see this progress continue under TPP leadership.

JCL/Devin Falling Flat at Federalist Convention

Former At-Large Senator JCL and his running mate Devin are struggling at the Federalist Party Convention. The endorsement vote currently favors Democratic Republican, Speaker of the South Maxwell and his running mate, former Northeast Governor Dallasfan65.

JCL, an individual know for rigid and extreme position on many issues, generate some controversy after telling delegates that they would get to select his running mate. When only 17-loss-streak perennial candidate Poirot declared, he reneged on that promise. Poirot has made private inquiry requesting that he be placed on the ticket. JCL, at press time, has seemed to have decided on Devin.

Maxwell Surges, Bore's Inevitably Cracks

Speaker of the South Maxwell has had a great week. Catapulted into the presidential election, he has secured the nomination of the Democratic-Republican Party, is the presumptive Federalist nominee, and seriously contested The People's Party nomination. All of this, along with his selection of a politically solid running mate in Dallasfan65, has put him ahead of Bore and JCL.

Bore began this campaign with a definitive lead, expected to win in a large landslide. The antics of Mideast Senator windjammer, alongside the bizarre paranoia that has gripped the Labor Politburo in recent days seems to have taken their toll on the nominee. The Eagle is currently projecting, due to the zombie horde controlled by the Politburo, that the race is a Tossup/Tilt Bore.

If you're going to run a newspaper, you might want to be a little less vitriolic in your articles. Just a friendly tip from a fellow journalist.

Oh, it surely doesn't. But no safe control of a region can be guaranteed while not even being the plurality party, right? Smiley

This number must come from the list on my thread. If loss-streak is consecutive loss, then it's only 15. I see 12 from Senate and Presidential runs and the last 3 for regional assembly. I might as well make fun of this.
