Um, no. If you support a flat tax with no ridiculous deductions or exemptions, you are not a RINO, period.

I don't see a resemblance personally.

Seriously though, Philip - just one issue that Specter agrees with the rest of his party on does not mean he's not a RINO.  In fact, I remember somebody else saying that every Specter senate term contains the following pattern: re-election, four years of RINOism, then two years of trying to look like a loyal Republican, then another re-election battle.  Interesting pattern, no?

He's introduced a flat tax in every Congress for the last 10 years.

He also agrees with us on gun control and flag burning.

In your opinion, perhaps.

Flag burning is a greater issue than military spending?

The two huge issues he's with us on are the flat tax and gun control, not that idiotic flag burning amendment that no one cares about.

Military spending might be a big deal, but in times of war, who doesn't agree with it? No, your two senators don't count.

I really dislike the terms RINO and DINO. If Arlen Specter were a democrat he'd be called a DINO, and as a republican he is called a RINO. It is hard to think for yourself in Washington these days.........

No, he is a moderate Republican.  Anyone who isn't the traditional Republican/Democrat isn't neccessarily a RINO/DINO.  The only one I can think of is Zell Miller, who hasn't a one liberal viewpoint and doesn't vote for anyone in the party among several other reasons.

Specter is a moderate Republican, a rapidly dying breed.

I agree.  There doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground sadly.

Specter is good for whats good for Specter.  Being a Republican "maverick" means being like by the left-wing media, except when your running for re-election.  In that case he joins his party so that he can get RSCC money to help his re-election campaign.

I don't know if that makes him a RINO but it does make him a career pol with interesting campaign startegy, albeit one without any real political loyalty.  So I voted RINO anyways.

Specter is a liberal, always has been.  He had one of the lowest party loyalty records in his votes as a Republican, but as a Democrat he has voted in lock step with everything Reid and Obama have wanted

Yes, he is. He supports abortion and he supported the stimulus package.
