What's wrong with Flower of Scotland? It's a beautiful song. I think it might insult Denmark though, so maybe that's why?

Scotland the Brave is also very fitting, but they've seemed to use Flower of Scotland at most sporting events, so it feels like a better anthem.

It is neither a good tune, nor good lyrics and both the two Rabbie Burns' songs and Hamish Henderson's Freedom Come All Ye are far superior options IMO.

Scotland the brave is quite a nice tune but not the type you want for a national anthem.

Why not? What sort of tunes do you find appropriate?

A few reasons:

1. Scotland the Brave is fast. Really really fast. It is difficult to fit any words to it and even if you succeed it will be difficult for people to sing them, and national anthems should be fairly easy for even the unmusical to sing.

But Cliff Hanley did write lyrics to it - when you talk about Scotland the Brave most people would consider those as an integral part of the song.

other:  the one that says "Well I will walk five hundred miles and I will walk five hundred more, just to be the man who walks five hundred miles before his feet gets sore."   Or something like that.  Ever heard that song?  Those guys sound more Scottish than any other band I can think of.  Plus, the marching beat of the song really has a national anthem feel.

Would be a really weird choice.
