Absolutely not, and this is part of why I can't support the death penalty. I'm not ever going to be willing to be someone pulling a trigger or poking a needle into someone's arm or running the machine that does the injection, so it's hypocritical for me to ask the state to find other people to do it.

For once I think the "(normal)" is actually well fitting.

Yes, assuming I believe they deserve to be executed.

'Willing'? With great reluctance if duty called under some bizzare fact pattern.

If under an even more unusual fact pattern if it involved someone who took the life of my wife or children: Downright eager.

Sorry Forum liberals: you may grasp your pearls and retreat to your fainting couches now.

Maybe if it was Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Other than that, no.

Well, that's why families should have nothing to do with justice or its administration.

I completely get it, and frankly, if I were in the same place, I'd be full of fury and that's why I shouldn't have anything to do with it.

It's more a matter of civilized and uncivilized as opposed to liberal or conservative.

I agree on both points, Polnut. But since we're dealing withh an obvious hypothetical, I added some twists to it.

I can imagine plenty of circumstances where I'd view it as a moral imperative. And even more where I'd find it abhorrent. I obviously hope I'd be the kind of person to act in accordance with my principles in either but one can never really know I guess.

I find BRTD's argument strange though and I always did. I wouldn't be willing to do tons of jobs in society, including being a firefighter, doctor or police officer. That hardly makes it hypocritical for me to support the existence of these things.

This is a hard question to answer.  Someone unrelated to me?  No.  But someone who had, for example, murdered my family and were to be executed anyway and they offered me a chance to do it personally... well, I'm but a man, no?

Depends on who is ordering the execution be done, the context of the execution itself, and of course, the guilt of the person being brought before the executioner. I mean I have a hard time picturing myself participating in an execution ordered by the powers that be in the here and now, but doing so in the context of a revolutionary campaign of terror against those responsible for the misery of humanity is something I wouldn't have to even spend anytime mulling about.

Except for Badger's hypotetical scenario, it wouldn't be something I'd seek nor accepted if offered.
