I'd like him to run for governor instead, but whatever.

I'd love to see Murphy run for Senate this year, Nelson run for Governor in 2018, and Graham run for Senator in 2018, but you can't always get what you want.

^ This is definitely the safer play, especially in an off-year. It looks like Murphy for Senate in 2016 then Graham for Governor in 2018 would be the Democrat's best scenario.

Nelson would be favored in 2018, then he could hand off the seat in a Presidential year (2024).

This is thinking very long-term, but still.

I don't know about an open race in 2018, I think it's great that Nelson is so keen on running re-election.

I like Bill Nelson, especially when he s**ts on Ted Cruz during Senate confirmation hearings.

I agree with Miles, This is the best case scenario for Democrats. I don't see either Graham or Murphy being able to win statewide in a midterm, especially if Hillary's around.

Well, if he runs again, which I'm actually surprised that he is planning to, that means this race will start out as Lean D, and Republicans hope of taking the seat diminishes quite a bit. It would take a massive wave to unseat him.

Good, I'd like to keep this seat in Democratic hands. Thankfully he's the one competent person in the Florida Democratic Party.

If he runs he'll probably do about as bad as Harris did in '06.

Nelson's beatable with a good candidate in a neutral or better year, but he has the most astounding luck with getting terrible opponents who nonetheless clear the field. No amount of money would be enough to put Scott over Nelson, even if we had 2010 style conditions.

Sounds about right, plus Nelson's heading up there. I can imagine some primary challenge fighting him on the same grounds as he did when he primaried Lawton Chiles Tongue

To be fair, when he primaried Lawton Chiles, we had the FDP of Lawton Chiles. Can't think of anyone who's deluded enough to think they can take down a sitting incumbent and then beat a Republican in a midterm.

I would love to see Rick Scott being finally crushed, but unfortunately with all the money he has, I guess he will manage to defeat him...

It's Bill Nelson. You're acting like he's literally any other Florida Democrat.

He's not. But still, Rick Scott is so lucky.

He won two races by 1% in midterm elections against weak candidates after spending tens of millions of his own money (that he stole from medicare). He'd lose in a landslide against Nelson.
