Nick Hanaur is the millionaire venture capitalist who gave a Ted talk which was banned on income inequality. He also appeared in the Robert Reich film "inequality for all." If say Patty Murray retired in 2016 I wonder if he could run for the US senate as a sort of Ross Perot meets Elizabeth Warren figure. Or maybe Governor of Washington and use that as a springboard to run for president in either 2020 or 24 depending on what ends up happening.

Guys like Nick Hanauer and Tom Steyer do more good for the Democratic Party and its causes by funding candidates who support their views than by running for office. It wouldn't help the GOP if any of their donors ran for office themselves, by the same line of thinking.

Besides, Democrats have a pretty solid bench in WA and I don't see Patty retiring until 2022 at the earliest, maybe even 2028 if she has the energy.

I want Patty Murray to stick around and become majority leader at some point. Durbin and Reid are so old and will be gone, the only hurdle for her is Schumer, who's her same age.
