No, and the past couple years I've noticed it seems the only people in Minneapolis who ever do are Hispanics.

I did it. It was awful - making us do it to each other again like 2 years ago. Hidden beneath my hair anyway.

I go to a school on the grounds of a Catholic monastery, and since we have mandatory masses on some Catholic holidays (Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday...), yes, I got ash on my hair.

You go to a high school with mandatory Catholic masses ?

WTF ?

I thought this stuff stops at elementary school, after first communion ("Erstkommunion").

At least that's how it worked here. But the "Holy Land" Tyrol might be different ... Wink

It's a private school, used to be run by the monastery. Up till today, some relicts have remained (mandatory Latin from grade 9 onwards, crosses in classes, and of course, masses)

My first year at Georgetown, seeing like one third of my classmates with ash on their forehead, was one of the biggest culture shocks I've ever experienced. No one does that in the Heartland. I've only seen one person today with it though.

I saw a few today.  I asked one if she was going to give up being neurotic for Lent.  She responded with some equally sarcastic joke that amused me.

Also, there must be at least some observant catholics in Austin.  Maybe not as many as in San Antonio or Houston, but there must be at least some Ashers over there.

None for me, by the way.

No (Jewish), and I keep forgetting this is a thing and being surprised by people doing it every single year.

That is surprising. I assumed Georgetown didn't really have any Catholicism left beyond being nominally so. That sounds more like something you'd see at Notre Dame.

Yeah, I've never seen this anywhere in Canada, and we're a much more Catholic country than the US
