There is no logic to this. No independent has ever done even moderately well statewide in Missouri and there are no high profile independents in the entire state.

It could do it for Democrats, too, depending on who is considered the more "moderate" candidate.  But since moderates vote pretty solidly D most of the time, I suspect it would help the GOP.  I'd much rather win with a clear mandate.
