The Roosevelt curse struck again as President Church was not only prevented from seeking reelection, but was stopped by the Grim Reaper rather than an irate Democratic primary electorate. Newly inaugurated President Udall also declined to seek a full term, citing his debilitating Parkinson's disease. Senator Mondale was selected by the party establishment as the standard bearer, against the objections of Senator Hart and Reverend Jackson. Mondale must carry the albatross of four years of continued economic stagnation against Reagan, who finally prevailed in the primary after coming so close in 1980.

Mondale, both in-character and out; in-character because he's center-left enough for me to be comfortable, and out of character because Reagan's ticket is a literal re-tread of real life, even if Mondale's ticket is as well. At least Mondale winning would be different.

If you did not follow the previous 46 installments of this series, the two parties are calibrated based on voting patterns in a previous series. Republican candidates get a 4/3 multiplier in post-1932 elections relative to Democratic candidates.
