Study after study has shown that students learn better from teachers that come from the same background as themselves, and I believe that these teachers can improve testing scores, GPA's, and passing rates. Not even talking about the loan section if said teachers do not teach in those schools.

I really like this idea and am inclined to support it, but I'd still like to see a cost analysis first.

I do like this idea, and I would like to contribute an amendment or two before this is all over.

Cheesy

I just sent the link to the GM, hopefully he can provide a cost analysis (unless something major happened with the GM position that I'm not aware of).

I know GPA is often not an exact indicator of how someone performs in the future, but I think putting in a GPA minimum is probably for the best, if only to lower the risk that the people that get the scholarship go through with it.

Hell, I'll even agree to something like a 2.5 GPA if it means some sort of check and balance measure.

2.5 is a fair number. I don't want to make the threshold too high, but it's hard to get under that in high school if you're actually serious about learning.

Since the sponsor approves, I'm giving this 24 hours for Duke or X to object.

Since there hasn't been much debate, why don't we vote on the final bill?

I think the purpose of this bill is to get teachers from the area to teach students, so as to give students a relatable experience. Flo explained himself at the beginning of the thread.
