Carson is certainly not at 18% right now nationally.

PPP seems to have a pro-Carson thing going on right now.

He might be, but I'm pretty sure he's just a conservative placeholder for "none of these candidates" right now.  He'll implode and his support will inevitably drop to like 1% everywhere at some point during the campaign, likely before a single vote has been cast.

That sounds like a candidate from the last election...

Hopefully Carson at least makes it to the debates.

I wonder why Paul has collapsed so much. I thought he would have a much higher floor than 4%.

He began speaking nonsense about how browns and blacks don't necessarily belong in jail.

Walker at 44-48 favorability among "very liberal" primary voters. Wow!

Of course, then there's Christie, who is underwater with everyone except for the "somewhat conservative", who see him favorably by a margin of 39-28.

A majority of Republican voters support establishing Christianity as the national religion, two-thirds don't believe on global warming and half don't believe in evolution. UKIP have nothing on this lot.

Do you consider yourself to be a member of the Tea Party?:
yes 27%
no 60%

Do you believe in global warming?
yes 25%
no 66%

Do you believe in evolution?
yes 37%
no 49%

Would you support establishing Christianity as the national religion?
yes 57%
no 30%

fav/unfav %:

Carson 54/8% for +46%
Walker 51/10% for +41%
Huckabee 56/19% for +37%
Cruz 45/16% for +29%

Perry 43/18% for +25%
Paul 42/24% for +18%
Bush 40/29% for +11%
Christie 28/45% for -17%

An interesting nugget: Carson has better favorability among Walker supporters than he has among...Carson supporters. Carson also wins the second choice question. Does that mean Carson will be the next flavor of the month if Walker fades?

Carson I understand, but it is a bit baffling to think that PPP would see Walker as a weak general election candidate, at least vis-a-vis Paul or Cruz. (Since ultimately the entire purpose of their polling this far out is to embarrass the GOP)

The Islamic State, and possibly also Vladimir Putin, appear to have returned the Republican base to a very hawkish state of mind. In doing so they may have also killed Paul's appeal beyond his father's cultists.

Yeah, this poll's crosstabs are suspect. Carson and Huckabee do better among somewhat conservative voters than very conservative voters, with Walker doing the opposite.

This has been consistent with nearly all polls so far. Huckabee leads with the more liberal groups quite often. Carson has pretty even support amongst all groups. Walker does get the support of the very Conservative - both establishment and anti establishment ones

That seems to be even more evidence that Huckabee (and likely Carson) are just getting name recognition support at this point. Crosstabs of every 2008 exit poll showed Huckabee as the candidate of very conservative voters, and if these voters have for the most part moved on to Walker, I can't imagine his support with somewhat conservative voters will withstand scrutiny. This might not be as true with Carson, since his stances are less defined than Huckabee, and he appears to be a moderate Republican in fact. However, I still find it hard to picture less ideologically motivated voters going for someone who has never held elected office before as their standard bearer.

Here's what the field would look like if Carson and Huckabee voters all went to their second choice candidate:
Walker 29%
Bush 22%
Cruz 10%
Christie 7%
Paul 6%
Rubio 5%
Perry 4%

Cruz will eventually be a force to be reckoned with.

Boy, I thought this might turn into a 20 candidate circus, but it's really just Walker v Bush.

Walker 29%
Bush 22%
