HE, unless you think killing a bunch of siblings for the crimes of their father is perfectly OK.

The execution of the Romanov family is literally nothing compared to the amount of people who died as a direct result of said family's rule

Not important. They were all royalty, which is grounds enough to liquidate them.

Would you favor a similar end for the Windsors?

I don't believe in ex post facto laws and "Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias" hadn't been a criminal offense before. I'm certainly not a fan of Nicholas, but I fail to see the legal justification for executing him for a nonexistent crime.

The executions of Nicholas and Alexandra were lean FEs (I mean, not really, since they're still executions, but within that context); the executions of their children and several of their servants--somehow that part gets left out of most of the more tendentious narratives surrounding the event, of all ideological stripes--were massive HEs. The idea that children deserve to be killed because of who their parents are, and servants because of who their employers are, comes from a profoundly, terribly atavistic thought process, even if one does try to rationalize it on leftist grounds.

TNF do you think Sascha and Malia Obama deserve death? (assuming you think their father deserves execution)

I favor the abolition of all monarchies. How the British people would handle such a situation is up to them.

Of course not. The United States is a (flawed) republic, so I wouldn't advocate or even imagine anything of the sort happening here.

It's questionable whether you can really call it an execution; there was no trial and there weren't even any charges. We can't call it a lynching as it there was not thing spontaneous about it and it was carried out by state actors; assassination is out for other reasons. I think that leaves us with murder. Semantics are sometimes important.

Anyway, Nikolai Alexandrovich was not a very sympathetic man and his wife was not particularly pleasant either. While it's hard to justify the straight-up political murder of a pair of (by now) harmless civilians, it's hard to feel particularly sorry either. And his last words - 'What?! What?!' - are darkly hilarious. It was wrong (and yes absolutely a crime), but barely justifies a place in the catalogue of horrors of the new Bolshevik regime.

The murder of their children and retinue though...

Most certainly a massive Freedom Execution (sane). As usual TNF is correct on this topic. Monarchy is like a weed - if you don't make sure to get all of it it's going to grow back.

It's also worth noting Nicholas's hilarious last words. The sentence was read out and he turned to his executioners and said "ayy lmao".

I don't think there's such a thing as a freedom execution. All executions are murder and all murder is bad, justified or not.
