Considering that State Senator Gomes is a former incumbent and that he's probably going to switch back to the Dems now that he's elected anyway, this isn't as impressive as it sounds, but still fairly impressive.

What's more interesting to me is that the Connecticut State Senate doesn't start till late February when they were elected in November.

It's always cool to see third parties win. I wonder if he'll switch back to being a Democrat.

This also happened with a city council seat ten years ago, I believe. I'm not a fan of the party, but I am usually happy to see third-party success.

Working Families Party members hold municipal board seats in both Hartford and Bridgeport. In heavily-Democratic cities, Connecticut's minority representation laws often end up reserving seats for the WFP in such places rather than for the Republicans.

Keep in mind also that this was a poorly-attended special election on a brutally cold Tuesday in February, in which highly-motivated voters turned out for their third-party candidate and most everyone else stayed home. Amidst considerable vote-splitting, 1,309 votes elected a Senator who will represent about 100,000 people.

Couldn't have happened here, as we have a sore loser law.
