With a poor economy, popular resentment over tax hikes, and instability in the Middle East, President Dukakis's saving grace for reelection may be the populist third-party candidacy of billionaire Ross Perot.

What led you to choose Mrs. Dole for Bush's Vice President as opposed to Senator Quayle?

Church's landslide victory likely would have had downballot effects, leading to many IRL members of the class of 1980 not winning. With her husband having already been on two losing tickets and Kemp being saved (spoiler alert), Ms. Dole seemed like the most plausible choice from Bush's IRL shortlist.

Cmon Perot supporters, we've got the chance to beat both Dukakis AND Bush. We'll be able to see what Perot can do as President!

Wait a minute, I thought Democrats were given a handicap? Now suddenly their vote count is inflated at the expense of Independents? Sorry if I missed something.

Third parties face a greater handicap than the Democrats.

So in other words, the rules are designed to make the outcome as boring as possible? Tongue
