Conan O'Brien made history this weekend, becoming the first host of an American late-night show to film in Cuba since the embargo began. The show will air March 4th.

Before now, the last late-night show to travel to Cuba was 'The Tonight Show' in 1959. Host Jack Paar was sharply criticized at the time for interviewing newly-empowered Fidel Castro. Though the embargo hadn't begun, U.S.-Cuba relations were extremely shaky.

According to a press release from the 'CONAN', the crew filmed in and around Havana.

Hopefully it goes better for Conan than his week of shows in Toronto in 2004. That was when they were trying to recover from the bad press surrounding the SARS epidemic.

I wonder if he has to get his script approved for broadcast by the Cuban government.

What was wrong with it? I have fond memories of that week.

I have fond memories of it too (one skit had the CN Tower mud-wrestling with the Sears Tower), but I remembered there was some controversy at the time. After checking Google it looks like either Conan or someone on his show insulted Quebecqouis (sp?) and there were demands from some in Canada for an apology.

Ahh yes, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Not only that, I think people were upset that Triumph was just a rip off of beloved Canadian pupped "Ed the Sock".

I love Triumph! I heard he's getting a new show with the blond guy from 30 Rock.

Anyways, Ed the Sock is way better than Triumph.

I think his name is Jack McBrayer. His name might be Kenneth on 30 Rock, but I never watched the show. I'll have to check out Ed the Sock.
