OXON HILL, Md. — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said on Friday that America will not be safe unless its leaders dramatically increase defense spending.

The Republican state executive, who is considering a 2016 presidential bid, told conservatives that the next race for the White House would likely center on foreign policy for the first time in more than three decades.

"With everything happening in the world, it is imperative, my fellow conservatives, that conservatives again embrace America's role as leader of the free world and the arsenal of democracy," Pence said at the Conservative Political Action Conference, where a dozen Republican White House prospects appeared in suburban Washington this week.

This is the bs that makes the center and any reasonable American confused to say the least. From someone that has served, even more so. The branches need consolidation and cuts to strengthen them, combined with a focus on innovative weapons systems and forward looking programs, not more of the same. As for Navy, just because you have fewer ships does not make you weak. It means a focus on fewer ships, fewer deployments, and forward presence via enhanced tech like missiles and carrier groups. I know guys that come in bs on their phones and leave as soon as they can in port, out to sea the mentality is the same. Granted this mentality is not the same throughout all branches but the bureaucratic creep is definitely there in all.

Y'know that old graph that shows how much voters think we spend on foreign aid, how much they think should be spent, and how much we actually spend (much lower then the first two categories)?

I feel like we need that for defense spending. We spend way more than most people think we do spend or we should spend.

Defense spending is already large, but it may be larger if Pence, Walker, or any Republican except Paul is the president come 2017.
