Plz no.

Brown can't possibly lose a Senate race, right?

If he manages to lose in a presidential year and with Hillary Clinton at the top of the ticket then he will make Coakley look like FDR.
I misread that as Scott Brown, especially with your Coakley reference.

Anywho, is Michael Steele interested in running (and losing?)

I think the Hogan loss was a little overblown. Low turnout was key to the GoP win here. If Walker who is leading in primary, Black turnout, which has 26 percent thresehold, will be high due to Walker's unconstutitonal voter ID law that Kemnedy SCrt struck down, in WI.

Yeah, now I believe he has no chance in Dem primary for Prez. He needs to take a hint and run for Senate. Let Webb and Bernie Sanders and Biden run against Hilary.

FF! One of a fading breed of Democrats that can coexist progressive principles and effective governance. The Senate will miss her for sure.

O'Malley would be pretty dumb to pass this up. Everyone knows that he isn't going to beat Hillary. He's still relatively young and a Senate seat would keep him relevant while still leaving open the possibility of running for President in 2020/2024.

He'd be running for VP. The question is if he thinks the chance of getting selected as VP is a better gamble than a safe Senate seat.

Donna Edwards would be my choice. She's reasonably young, a progressive outsider, not in AIPAC's pocket and seemed very intelligent, personable and candid when I heard her speak.

I may not agree with her often, but she does fantastic constituent outreach. I was also convinced she was a lifer.

I'll take O'Malley as a Senator.

It would be hilarious if Hogan ran, but obviously he won't.

What would also be hilarious, and maybe more possible, is a primary with both O'Malley and Brown.

I don't think Republicans have even a remote chance of contesting this seriously, but if we were to, the answer would not be a retread like Michael Steele, but someone newer: Boyd Rutherford comes to mind instantly, and a run here, even if he (as is very likely) loses would be fantastic set-up to another race down the line (probably for Governor in 2022 as Hogan's heir, whether Hogan wins reelection or not).

As for Democrats, O'Malley seems to me to start off as an obvious favorite. Mikulski is the longest-serving woman in the Senate and is well-known for creating an organized bipartisan "club" of Senate women; she may want another woman to replace her. The two most obvious candidates, in that case, seem to be Donna Edwards and Heather Mizeur.

Mizeur or Edwards would be my preferred candidates. I expect to get Sarbanes or Brown.

Probably leaving the path open for Pelosi to be succeeded by Xavier Becerra as soon as Hoyer retires, since Clyburn doesn't look likely to go for it.

So, why would Van Hollen do this? Is it that his House career looks like a dead end? Pure boredom, like with Markey? Or ambitions for an office that is easier to aspire to from the Senate than the House?

Just as I insisted, O'Malley won't run for this seat.

I like him alot, but O'Malley is throwing away a big opportunity. He must be farther into a presidential bid than we thought.

I really do hope Van Hollen doesn't run. I want him to be Speaker or Majority Leader. Not a junior Senator.

I don't know much about Maryland politics, but Van Hollen, Edwards, and possibly Sarbanes seems like they'd be decent. Rawlings-Blake would be a interesting choice if Dems wanted to have a mayor upgrade to Senate.

I've been told Delaney is centrist, so no thank you.

Same. Edwards, Sarbanes, or Mizeur would all be good.
