Former President Clinton, then-Senator Clinton, Governor Swift, Governor Romney, Governor Patrick, Governor Baker, Senator Kerry, Senator Kennedy, and Rep. John Lewis.

Lewis is very short, Baker is very tall. In case anyone was wondering.

haha.  That was my former president as well.  Our conversation was short, maybe ten seconds.  Autograph, handshake, and a greeting.  It was all very quick and perfunctory.  In fact, if he hadn't had such a southern drawl it would have only been five seconds.

State Senator Obama; former President Carter; a couple dozen members of Congress (then-Senator Max Cleland and then-Rep. Carol Shea-Porter being the main ones when I worked for them or out of their offices on other campaigns, and Rep. Mark Takano and I hang out with some of the same people in D.C.); and about 100 ambassadors (one of the responsibilities of my job is to brief incoming U.S. and foreign ambassadors).

Not that any of this really matters...

I nearly met President Clinton once before, but I missed out on the opportunity to meet him personally.

At the state level, I've met/shook hands most notably with David Pepper who's Chair of the Ohio Democratic Party and U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur.

Austrian President Heinz Fischer (SPÖ), when he was not President yet. He was then speaker of the Parliament.

I think I was 13 then and in Vienna with my class for a Parliament tour.

I also met former Salzburg Governor Gabriele Burgstaller (also SPÖ) at a podium discussion once (when I was 15 or 16).

I've met Tony Abbott, but we didn't shake hands.

Living in Canberra for many years, I surprisingly didn't see very many politicians; granted, I did tend to stay in the same places.  I do recall, age 14, standing in the foyer in the church we attended in Charleston, where Mark Sanford was shaking hands with the pastor.

Hm, depending on definitions I guess Rand Paul, the Swedish Crown Princess or the Swedish finance minister. Or the Austrian former finance minister. That last one I had a long, proper conversation with over wine.

I've corresponded with one president and a few then-Senators, one of whom became president.  I've also been to speeches by high-ranking politicians.  But, though I've been racking my brain thinking about it, I don't remember any elected officials ever shook my hand in my life.  So, there is a level to which even they won't stoop.
