My church traditionally dislikes him because he did nothing when we were getting brutally kicked out of Missouri (an apocryphal story has him saying something along the lines of "Gentlemen, your cause is just, but I can do nothing for you, or I will lose the vote of Missouri", despite most Mormons voting for him for president the first time.

I just think MVB was incompetent in any case, so HP as a president, though he wasn't bad as a person.
