Why would anybody? They have to have some real guts, and that's why calling leaders 'unpatriotic' in my book is stupid.

It is of course entirely unrealistic, because of my background and views and the presence of hundreds of millions of competitors, but the honest answer is 'yes', which is how I voted.

When I was a kid, I did... But as I've grown older, I wouldn't want the job. Politics is something to follow and debate among friends... It's not something I'd want to do as a career.

I'd rather work in the legislative branch. Or to be the Mayor of a city.

Nah, I'd like to be a governor. Zero interest in president. Foreign affairs is a mess. Not only would I be against war to a fault, but I would not want to deal with foreign leaders in any sense even friendly ones. Plus all the nonsense formalities.

When I was in high school though, obviously yes.

Yes.  I see politics, as its best, as means of changing nations for the better.

I'm not interested in the Presidency itself, but unrealistic at it is I would actually like to be a part of the cabinet or the legislative branch.

Yes.  I see politics, as its best, as means of changing nations for the better.

Let's not get overly idealistic here. Working for the "better" is a mere byproduct of public policy as it involves the overseeing of others. Same principles as that which drives management.

Well I did say ' best'.  We all have our vision of what politics at its worst is.

I would only run for office if I ever became wealthy enough to speak my mind and not have to care about the damage.

It is of course entirely unrealistic, because of my heterodox combination of views and general personality as well as the presence of tens of thousands of competitors, but the honest answer is 'yes', which is how I voted.

No. I'm not so infused with ambition that I "have to do it", I'm not interested in the media learning every detail of my personal life, I'd never get through the primary of either major political party (The democrats would reject me based on social issues, the republicans would reject me the moment they learned that I don't support repealing ObamaCare), and I'm not interested in being part of a government that is so slow and gridlocked that it takes nearly two months to get one bill (keystone) through a congress that is dominated by a single political party.

I wouldn't want to run for president, or devote my life to politics in a way necessary to become president. If I could flip a switch and I'd wake up as president the next morning, I would probably do that. That said, I doubt I could do much better of a job than our esteemed current president, Mr. Barack H. Obama.

Yes, but more likely I'd prefer to be the person controlling the President.

Like others above, I thought about it when I was a kid.  Now, no way.  I'm slated to be chair of my department starting in the fall, and I'm already loathing that.  I'm not much for combat.
