Confession time: Yes I am.

However I have no problem with it. Getting my own plan would require that I pay twice as much for the data I use and would have zero advantages.

Nothing wrong with it.  Saves you money.  Cell phone companies are completely trying to rip you off and this limited data nonsense has gone too far.

I am not, but I would never fault anyone for entering into a family plan with anybody.  I was only a family plan with 3 friends of mine at a time.

I think it would be more accurate to say that they're on the same cell phone plan as me, since I got the plan set up for them about a decade ago.

No, but my college-age kids are on my wife's plan. Mine is separate for specific reasons. Wink

No, I'm on a prepaid plan while my parents have a contract.

Yes. To split up our family plan, I'd lose my unlimited data and my bill would almost double. The family plan would go up $50/month if we got rid of the two separate data plans and got a family share plan. It's ridiculous.

My parents do pay my plan, but we all three have seperate plans... I suspect things here are a lot different than in the states on that point

We pay 10€/month for unlimited internet (though with a slower connection speed after the first yow gigabytes of data), 1000 minutes and 1000 calls; plus we get money back if we don't use all of the calls/texts

That's basically the exact opposite of what US carriers do now. Most are moving away from unlimited data but offering unlimited minutes and texts for rather cheap. In fact at least one carrier has done away with all non-unlimited texting plans and offers only unlimited texting or none at all.

No.  My father is no longer with us, and my mother lives on a different continent than I do, so it would be impossible to do even if I wanted to.

No.

I always had my own plan. My mum has a mobile prepaid-plan, because she mostly uses her mainline at home.

To put things in perspective, my parents get a special promo plan: 30GB for $130, shared by five people (technically six but my father doesn't have a smartphone or use data). And my line access charge is $40/month. I'm actually paying $25/month for my phone under the Verizon Edge program, but that also gives me a $25 discount...thus equalling free phone. So I get effectively 6GB/month and a free phone for about $66/month. $60/month under a single line plan would get me...1GB. And only a $15 discount on my phone, so it'd be actually $70/month, aka paying more money for 1/6 the data.

Yeah I'm also 31, but you'd have to be an idiot to make that change at any age.

I'm older than Joe, and I'm on my parents' plan. My mother gets a discount through her work, and having several individual plans is far more expensive than having all lines consolidated on a family plan.

Probably. The way the U.S. mobile industry is set up is a disaster.

I'm not. My fiancé is, and he has a shared data plan with his father and sister.
