Not surprising at all...I look forward to another poorly scheduled special election by Christie (assuming Menendez has to go).

They haven't actually brought any charges against him yet. And he'd have to go to trial which will take time.

I wouldn't resign till the last hour if I were him.

Menendez has more lives than a cat, wouldn't schedule his funeral just yet.

I live in NJ. Not surprising. Menendez has always been a crook. Sad, because he was part of the House Democratic Leadership and the Senate kingmaker. I see Christie appointing Assemblyman Jay Webber or Sen. Tom Kean Jr.

while those fireworks were exploding,
I was burning that fcker and stringing my (red) flag high!

If Ted Stevens didn't resign even after he was CONVICTED then I don't see why Menendez would resign now.

Stevens was half-dead by then.  Menendez can be threatened with expulsion.  if expelled he loses his pension benefits and so on.  if he resigns he doesn't.

that plus the spectre of ongoing legal costs.  plead out, resign, do a few months in a min. security hotel room and then get a "job" from somebody who owes you a favor.

I doubt he'll even go to "jail". Just be fined, you know how it goes.

At this rate, New Jersey might be able to join New York and Illinois in the corruption state trio!

Still, I doubt this will go far, and I hope Menendez will stay in (for now at least) if for no other reason to avoid another handpicked Christie tempore replacement for the Republicans.

Pallone would be a much better Senator than Holt, although I'd be happy with either.

You imply that we weren't already there. Regardless, the state can do a lot better than Menendez, and I really hope for Pallone or Holt to replace him. I'm really hoping that we can avoid someone like Sweeney, Norcross, or another Christiecrat.

You're forgetting Louisiana.
