While President Jesse Jackson easily got the RC nomination and former California Governor Jerry Brown was able to claim the DA nomination, there would be much more chaos over at the AU. In a shock, the candidate who got the most votes during the primaries was Louisiana Senator David Duke, a former KKK leader and an outspoken figure in the midst of nationwide racial violence. The party establishment is terrified of either Duke or Buchanan being nominated, but their concerns are gravest with Duke, whose charisma and political savviness has given him greater influence over the years. To try and prevent an unfortunate scenario, the establishment has rallied around Tom Kean, who has already announced Bob Dole as his running mate on the convention floor.

Who will become the AU nominee? Two days.

Genau XD

And...wow...not a single earnest vote for Kean yet? And Duke's winning?

...I rest my case.

Duke would unquestionably win this nomination in real life by a landslide, so it might as well be him.

Relax, Spiral's excellent at adjusting when these things happen.

On one hand, he let LaRouche get nominated and kill off a political party (RIP Worker's Party Sad )

But he didn't let obvious sabotage ruin the AU back in 1980, and when sabotage brought it to a tie, he went with Barry Goldwater.

Duke or Buchanan could win this and face Jackson and Brown...that's a good dramatic turn itself, but they could also both be somehow disqualified ...suddenly we have have a political scandal thriller...or even assassinated by black nationalists....now you've got a thriller.

Bob Dole also got 3 votes, he easily could've been included here too.

Have more faith in Master Spiral, for he never disappoints, and he's always a step ahead.

Why is it sabotage? The goal of these election series should be to make elections and scenarios as interesting as possible, and Duke will definitely make 1992 interesting.

Because the average AU voter would never support Duke? If "make 1992 interesting" means completely eliminating the right from the equation and just leaving it to the left to fight it out, then I guess you're right. But if that's the case, then why include a candidate of the right in the first place?

Sabotaging inevitably happens. A Duke nomination at least makes sense in the context of this timeline given what I've written up. But for everyone sabotaging who's expecting their side to win now, as I've said before, every event has its own consequences. Wink

Now you've heard it from the Master himself, and with all the humour in tow. Kiki

As for me, as long as no one else will keep up the Master Thread, and I'm recording the results from start to finish, I have to vote in every last one of these regardless of the party's ideology (so I went with Buchanan)

The Kean momentum is growing now.

Uh oh. I'm thinking that it goes to the House and either side has to make a deal with the Devil (Duke).

I genuinely want to see Duke as POTUS (no taking that out of context pls) to see what sort of horrors are unleashed.
