Is cisgender an actual word? Like, could I use it in Scrabble?

Never even heard of Cisgender before. Not even sure why there even needs to be a word for it but whatever.

Because it sounds better than un-transgender.
no it just sounds like some sort of venereal disease

Male, and gay. Somewhere along the gray-ace scale, though. A solitary lifestyle does interest me though...

Err of course we need a word for 'not being transgender'. Unless you guys object to the word 'heterosexual' as well?

I highly approve of any neologism based on Latin etymology, so "cisgender" is great.

It's not really relevant.

Only relevant if you want to compare this Forum's composition to the actual world. They are miles apart.

it's in the Oxford Dictionary at least

http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/cisgender

Denoting or relating to a person whose self-identity conforms with the gender that corresponds to their biological sex; not transgender

That's the origin. We needed a word for non-trans folks, so we used a prefix for non-trans chemicals.

And cis gay.

Gay male. I understand the definition of 'cisgender' but I don't particularly find it helpful when trying to  deal with trans issues and the discrimination they face to define an 'opposite' to being trans. In-groups define out-groups and out-groups fight for their own dignity as a result of that definition. Defining 'others' should not be something LGBT groups do, and certainly not in the case of trans individuals defining people who are LGB along those lines.

I find it fascinating that in a forum where a majority of users prescribe to a "progressive", "pro-science" attitude that terms like "cis" are flung about in a completely unscientific and inappropriate way. Academically, they are absolutely meaningless in this context.

Are you under the impression that women require alcohol to want or enjoy sex? That's very much not true.
