Happened yesterday. Not worn and ripped jeans mind you, ones that were obviously pre-torn. Also the speaker was a woman and probably around the age of 25.

Anyway I thought that was pretty awesome, and notable considering how often I've heard people growing up talk about how their parents told them they COULDN'T wear ripped jeans to church. LOL.

I would think "terrible heretic" because I find the idea of pre-torn jeans to be deeply offensive.

Seriously? She was a very attractive blonde and they looked GREAT on her.

Actually tearing jeans through natural wear is going to involve a large investment of time and work. Wearing pre-torn jeans is tantamount to pinning on military medals you bought at a garage sale.

LOL know what's funny? Her sermon was about our desires for instant gratification.

Problem with that: this church doesn't have windows.

So a very attractive young woman in pre-torn jeans and a pink hoodie talks about how she gets angry at Siri for not giving her the right info immediately....and how we all desire instant gratification so much but that God never necessarily intended for us to receive it. Very fitting.

If in a pew, showing up in torn jeans if just ducky.

There are no pews in this church.
If invited to hold forth at the podium, seeking their rapt attention, doing it in torn jeans, particularly if it "under-dresses" the congregation, is a sign of disrespect. Call me old fashioned.  Maybe it is in the gay in me, but sartorial presentation matters.

Hahahaha. Not a problem believe me.

I doubt at brtd's church that that's under-dressing the audience. I wouldn't be surprised if people there made it a point to be as casual as possible to undermine the idea that God expects you to wear your "best" clothes, which is something I've always agreed with. Respect for your God, your pastor, your congregation, that's something proven with actions that reflect your faith, not the objects you literally use to hide yourself from the outside.

I don't think that's actually true (the first part at least), it's more like "this is how I normally dress, and there's no reason to dress any differently to church" plus the fact that many are going to coffee shops and bars before and after church too. And you don't dress any differently for church than you do for those things.

But the second sentence, yeah no one would disagree.

I've never sseen an American Lutheran minister wear one of those and kind of assumed they went extinct in the 18th century. I have seen Lutheran ministers at church in jeans though (not torn granted). In North Dakota too.
