Senators, you have at least 72 hours of debate over the nomination of Al Sibboleth for Attorney General. Mr Sibboleth will be informed by PM.

This is an excellent nomination by the President, and Al will have my full support.

What are your intentions and priorities for the Justice Department?

Firstly, to perform the roles mandated to the position of Attorney General in an efficient and effective manner, and to advise the President on legal matters. Secondly, I would like to modernise the Justice Department and its functions as regards criminal law, while also using the Justice Department to lobby the Senate for practice changes in criminal law in order to better protect the rights of defendants and to remove the fear of politically motivated prosecution. Current laws and guidelines on this matter are alarmingly weak, and I believe that the political culture of the Republic would benefit from changing this state of affairs.

Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else, but haven't you been affiliated with some questionable groups in the past? How can the Atlasian people trust you to uphold the country's laws if you've been associated with groups whose aims were not necessarily lawful?

Firstly, I don't believe that I have ever been affiliated to any group whose aims could be fairly described as not necessarily lawful, unless you're counting the Cultural Marxist Party of Atlasia (which was indeed theoretically committed to violent revolution) and I don't think that you should given that the party was primarily satirical.

I was accused of involvement - this would have been in 2010 I think - in the Reality Or Nothing organisation, but was completely exonerated a few years later. This unfortunate situation came about because RON sent all of its press statements to my office. I was never a member.

Secondly, a contentious past in Atlasia does not necessarily imply a troublesome present. The best example of this is none other than the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who was once a notorious figure and who was widely regarded as a disruptive troll, but who is now one of our most respected citizens. I have serious plans for this post (indications of which I have given above) and as such the Atlasian people can be sure that I will carry out my duties with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.

I have a question Al,
Will you fulfil the duty of updating the wiki?

How will you address the growth of far-right militia activity as Attorney General?

Will you take a more active role in prosecuting tax dodgers and crack down on white collar crime?

How stringently will you protect the right of labor to organize, bargain collectively, and go out on strike as Attorney General?

The nominee has my support. If he is unable to update the wiki, I think it would be possible to appoint a Deputy Attorney General or have another member of the cabinet fulfill that duty.

I guess that even though there have been some occurences in the past, I can vote for his confirmation, as I (personally) think he is a very skilled attorney (as seen in the Ogis-trial), I like his ideas of reform, and he stated that he will "carry out [his] duties with a high degree of professionalism".

Of course. I will also appoint a deputy to assist in this. So long as communication between the Senate and the Justice Department is kept open then there will be no problems regarding the Department's mandated wiki related duties.

Senator, as has already been noted in this hearing, I was cleared of any involvement in the GTO office attack and all other RON related activities several years ago. I published the messages sent to my office by RON during the troubled summer of 2014 because the public had a right to know about the threats that the organisation made. Transparency is a virtue.

I am deeply concerned at the threat to the rule of law that the current upsurge in far-right militia activity represents and will do my utmost to clamp down on these dangerous extremists. I also favour using the law to chase down those who break the law in order to pay less tax, although I believe much of the responsibility in that area lies with the Regions. Co-operation with them on this issue is certainly something I am interested in pursuing. As to your final question, all you need to know is that I'm the man responsible - many, many years ago now - for adding the right to bargain collectively into the Constitution.

Yes, that was the Cultural Marxist Party of Atlasia. A piece of performance art. Satire. A joke. On that particular occasion we stormed the Senate building, tied a couple of Senators to their seats, smashed up the kitchen and then proceeded to wave red flags until escorted out by security. Most people seemed to find it amusing.
